Minutes Of Meeting 1

Agenda: Introduction to OLPC

Members Present: Amit , Abhishek ,Sapan ,Sankool ,Sohin and me (Raghu)

1. Technology

 - OLPC device works on open source Operating System.

 - Various activities preloaded.

 - Custom developments of course content possible.

 - Priced at approximately $210 excluding operation cost.

 - Monochrome screen for better visibility during day light.

 - Wi Fi enabled and works on Mesh Network.

2. Pedagogy

 - Targeting schools not laptops

 - Reaching children from 6 - 12 years of age

3. Outreach - Parameters for distribution

 - Aimed for underprivileged children.

 - Municipal schools.

 - Media can be used for awareness.

 - Example of OLE - Nepal, project run by Bryan Berry

Fund Raising:

    - Government

    - Corporate (can also allow branding)

    - Individuals

    - NRI community

 - Mobilize Community

  - 50 + 70 (need to confirm) laptops are available for Mumbai

 - Need to get status of 100 laptops at Latur 

Maintenance Cost

-       Who will bear the cost of maintenance?

-       Spare parts replacement etc

Content:

- Content generation in local languages.

- Some content available from Dr. Nagarjuna of Homibhaba Institute of Science Education

- School Server

- Learning Management System (Model)
